Christening on a narrowboat

Description

Black and white photograph taken by T W Millner, shows numerous boat people on the stern and cabin of the Faulkner horseboat "Elaine". The people seen include boatwoman Sarah Roberts holding her baby son Edward, three other boatwomen, a boatyman and a child. All of the women are wearing black bonnets. Part of the cabin can be seen, with "Faulkner" and "Leighton Buzzard" visible on the side. There are other unidentified working narrowboats and a lock in the background. With a note "Mrs Harlow. District Nurse for many years, Gayton, Tiffield. Rothersthorpe. Many bargees used to "tie-up" in her area if they were expecting a baby because of her popularity among the barge people. The[y] knew she was a remarkable nurse. I suppose this to be a photo of one of her patients."
