Administrative / Biographical history
During World War II, plans were drawn up to extend the Weaver Navigation to Audlem as part of a 100-ton waterway to Wolverhampton. It was proposed to utilize the upper Weaver from Winsford to Audlem and then the Shropshire Union Canal. An Act was secured in 1945 allowing extension to Nantwich but the full scheme was never realised.
