Administrative / Biographical history
The Birmingham & Bristol Channel Improved Navigation was conceived to improve communication between Bristol and Gloucester and would have involved enlarging the Worcester & Birmingham Canal to take craft of 200-250 tons. It was supported by the Chambers of Commerce of Worcester, Birmingham and Wolverhampton, but ultimately the Birmingham Corporation decided to support an improved route to London.
