Administrative / Biographical history

Steamboat 'Beatrice' had once been a passenger boat, holding up to 150 passengers and cruising along the Severn from Stourport to Gloucester Quay. Following years of neglect she sunk at her moorings in the Stourport lower basin and was consequently purchased by British Waterways under the power of the British Waterways Board Act 1983. The Beatrice Preservation Trust was formed in 1987 after the decision was taken by British Waterways to destroy her as repair was too costly. Unfortunately the trust was unable to raise the funds needed and ultimately the trust was fully dissolved in 2003.
