Administrative / Biographical history

The Nottingham Canal Society, of which Gerrard was a founding member, was formed in 1976 with the view to preserve the Nottingham Canal, particularly by reinstating navigation between Langley Mill and Coventry Lane. Ultimately it was decided the funds needed to reopen the canal for navigation were too great, and as a result the society was dissolved and the canal remains disused.
