The council bought the parts of the Basingstoke Canal lying within Hampshire in 1974. The remainder of the canal being bought by Surrey County Council. The canal was restored and reopened by 1991 and is now run by a joint management committee, the Basingstoke Canal Authority.

It has not been possible to ascertain any original structure of record-keeping from the small number of records held for this company. The fonds has therefore been arranged in chronological order.
