Edward Tailby's early motor boat 'Progress' on the Grand Junction Canal
Black and white photograph looking across the canal towards the stern and cabin of the boat, on the cabin is written "Edward Tailby Motor Boat Birmingham", "Registered at Gloucester No 427", and "Progress" which is also written on the stern. There are 2 men at the stern of the boat, one is stood by a wheel used to steer the boat. [This boat was experimental due to the steering arrangement where there was a wheel instead of a wooden tiller, also the boat used gas instead of a steam engine which was unusual for the time].
