Ainscough boats at Yarwoods boatyard in Northwich on the River Weaver

Description

Black and white photograph showing the H & R Ainscough Limited boats "Ironclad" and "Attractive" tied up at the boatyard. The Ainscough boats built at Yarwoods were 72 feet long. "Ironclad" had an engine, while "Attractive" was towed, such boats usually being called a "dumb boat" and "butty" was not a term used on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal. There are buildings and equipment in the background, and the boat "Gwalia" is on stocks. The photograph is stamped "Builders W J Yarwood & Sons Ltd Northwich (Cheshire)".
