Scene at the opening of the wide locks at Hatton on the Grand Union Canal
Description
Black and white photograph of a newspaper cutting showing a scene at the opening of the wide locks at Hatton on the Grand Union Canal. Taken from above looking down on the canal, the wide-boat "Progress" is on the canal along with several unidentified narrowboats. There are lots of people gathered to view the opening. The headline of the cutting reads "Duke of Kent Opens New Canal Locks" with the subheading "Flight of 51 on the Grand Union". There is a small article describing the photograph at the bottom right corner which reads, "The scene at Top Lock No. 1. Hatton, Warwickshire, when the Duke of Kent inaugurated a flight of 51 new wide locks on the Grand Union Canal yesterday".-(Daily Sketch.)
