Duke of Kent on 'Progress' at the opening ceremony of wide locks at Hatton
Black and white photograph showing the Duke of Kent and William Curtiss on the wide-boat "Progress" during the opening ceremony of the wide locks at Hatton. The main photograph shows the boat travelling along the canal past spectators on the side of the canal. There is another small photograph in the bottom left corner showing a close-up of the Duke of Kent and William Curtiss. On the bottom right of the main photograph there is a small newspaper cutting which reads, "The inauguration of Hatton Lock, Warwickshire, one of 51 on the Grand Union Canal which the Duke of Kent opened yesterday. Left, the Duke is seen performing the opening ceremony by cutting a tape. With him is Mr. William Curtis, chairman of the canal company."
