Narrowboats 'Hereford' and 'Alder' at the top of the Anderton Lift on the Trent and Mersey Canal

Description

Black and white photograph looking across the canal, the narrowboats are side by side on the opposite side of the canal. "Hereford" is the nearest boat to the camera, the name is written on the stern with "British Waterways" and "Registered at Stone No 5" on the cabin. Part of the cabin and stern of 'Alder' is visible behind, there are people on the boats. The cabin and stern of another narrowboat is visible to the left of the photograph, it has "Regd at Birmingham No 1325" written on the cabin. The Southern Carrying Fleet office is behind the boats, with the top of the lift and industrial buildings in the background.
