Boats on the River Severn at Diglis

Description

Black and white photograph of the tug 'Athlete' with the Droitwich salt barge 'Wye' on the River Severn at Diglis. 'Wye' has sideboards fixed and is therefore bound for Bristol. There is an empty lighter on the river which belongs to the Severn & Canal Carrying Company Limited and was used for carrying deals or grain. Several Severn & Canal Carrying Company Limited narrowboats are also visible on the river in the background. There is a man stood by the river on the left of the photograph. [This is John Bradley who was the former Severn Commision Superintendent, his grandson also undertook this role].
