Frederick Fielding became a Salvation Army cadet in 1928 and married fellow Salvation Army Officer Ivy Coppling in 1933. From 1950 to 1964 they worked as barge missionaries on the narrowboat Salvo helping barge families to intergrate. They also put on trips for Salvation Army cadets during the summer months, this was known as the 'canal crusade'. After 1964 Brigadier Fielding had various postings including one to Libya. Ivy Fielding died in 1984 and Frederick Fielding died in 1987.
