"Synopsis: This paper provides a bried backgound on the history of the inland waterways of the British Waterways Board with particular emphasis on the sedimentation characteristics of the system. Historical records of the quantities oand costs of dredging over the last 10 years are given with detailed examples of some of the major waterways. Methods of dredging with details of the dredging plant employed are describerd. Difficulties of spoil tips and disposal methods are also discussed."
