Admin history
Archibald Muir White (1892-1961) was born in Anderston, Glasgow and grew up in Glasgow, where he was apprenticed. He later worked in sewerage and reinforced concrete construction. In 1918, still living in Glasgow, he was admitted as a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers while working as an ambulance orderly in France for the Red Cross.
Later, he was appointed as a draughtsman at the Birmingham Canal Navigation, and was Engineer between at least 1931 and 1947. On nationalisation he was appointed Divisional Engineer in the North Western Division. He retired late in 1956, after Sir Reginald Kerr took over, but remained in an advisory capacity until June 1957.
