Shropshire Union Canal (SUC) Wirral Line/ 'Spey'/ carrier.T Clayton

Description

Thomas Clayton motor boat Spey towing ex-horse boat Ohio loaded with fuel oil, heading towards Chester pass an unidentified empty pair en route to Ellesmere Port to load. The boats are keeping to the left as they pass, contrary to the present custom. On this stretch of canal they passed at least five empty pairs of Clayton boats.The telegraph poles by the towpath were a feature of the Shropshire Union Canal.
