Black and white photograph showing members of Mrs E Merchant's family and the Fellows, Morton & Clayton Limited butty narrowboat 'Joan' at the Typhoo Tea warehouse in Bordesley on the Birmingham Canal Navigations. 'Joan' is in the foreground with part of the bow and cabin visible, on the cabin "No 231" is written. On the boat are Bill Roberts' wife, Mrs Merchant's sister Clara and a dog. Bill is sat on a railing outside the tea warehouse. [The photograph was possibly taken by Mrs Merchants cousin, Philip Ward].
