Pair of narrowboats in a lock at Hatton Locks
Description
Black and white photograph showing a pair of Grand Union Canal Carrying Company Limited narrowboats on the Grand Union Canal at Hatton Locks. The pair are the motor 'Bognor', captained by New Zealander, Cicely Ramsay, and the butty 'Pavo'. Taken from the side of the canal looking towards the back ends of the boats, a set of lock gates are visible behind them and there is a trainee boatwoman by the side of the canal working the lock gate. 'Pavo' a replacement for 'Uttoexter', which was damaged by V2 shrapnel in 1944.
