Wide boat on the Barton Swing Aqueduct

Description

Black and white photograph taken by Cyril Arapoff showing a wide boat entering Barton Swing Aqueduct on the Bridgewater Canal passing the south side cabin used to operate dual gates which seal off both canal and tank when swung off. Beneath the aqueduct on the centre island can be seen a catchment tray for potential leakage from the tank ends which can be safely drained off into the Manchester Ship Canal.
