Administrative / Biographical history

Jack F Pownall is best known for his idea of creating a grand contour canal to run down the natural contours of England and Wales. He also planned to use it as a national water grid in conjunction with other local schemes which he thought up. This extensive project was never realised mostly due to the high costs involved.
