Clifford showed the prints from 'A sense of Time' to Tony Conder, the curator at the National Waterways Museum in Gloucester. He liked the work and readily agreed to apply for a Lottery 'Award for All' grant to enable Clifford to photograph canals in other parts of the country and thereby to double the size of the exhibition. The grant application was successful and the new, larger exhibition was produced and was re-titled 'Only the Tide of Time'. It opened at the Guildhall Arts Centre in Gloucester on the 28th August 1998 and was subsequently exhibited at The Boat Museum, The Borough Museum & Art Gallery in Newcastle under Lym, the The Bass Museum in Burton on Trent, Wednesbury Museum & Art Gallery, Towneley Hall Art Gallery & Museums in Burnley before its final showing in 2001 back in Gloucester at the National Waterways Museum.
