Description

The papers include a typescript manuscript detailing a journey along the River Thames in a gig and other notes on canal history. Various printed ephemera including Welford Rally brochures, IWA events, two copies of Windlass (nos 28 and 49), publicity leaflet for Kennet & Avon canal 'Project '76,2 page article relating to Denys (aka 'Hutch') Hutchings MBE and his involvement in the restoration of the Kennet & Avon canal(July 1983 Staff Newsletter of the Leslie & Godwin Group), some other newspaper and magazine articles relating to canals and restoration work There are also three colour washed engravings showing Shillingford bridge, Berks (Pub for S Ireland May 1799);Entrance to the Sapperton Tunnel, Gloucestershire; City Basin, Regen't canal(F J Havell) Plates removed from antiquarian volumes showing waterway scenes at Chiswick, Chelsea,Putney, Wandsworth, Isleworth, Richmond Gardens(this shows gang of men bow hauling), Teddington Locks, Richmond Bridge, Roehampton.

Mr D. D Hutchings - Denys Hutchings(known as 'Hutch') was a former Senior Marine Broker who was awarded an MBE for his unstinting work in the restoration of the Kennet & Avon canal system. He was Hon. Sec for the Kennet & Avon Canal Trust Ltd and a member of the restoration sub-committee
