The Grand Union Canal near Braunston basin

Description

View showing the Samuel Barlow Coal Co butty 'Uranus' being towed empty (motorboat Kent) past the towpath bridge at the basin entrance, a small child can be seen sitting on the cabin top. Also a view of the cast iron towpath bridge. August 2021 - information received suggests that this pair are travelling north towards Newbold on the Oxford Canal. The Horseley iron towpath bridge is over the Rugby Arm branch, part of the old main line. This branch was to become Willow Wren CCCo base. The boats have just travelled over the 2 iron aqueducts over the Leicester Road and River Swift, the narrowing of the canal can be noticed at the bottom centre of the photo. (Sub.71668)
