BW192/3/2/2/27/1

Keel barge 'Bowdale' at Cromwell Lock on the River Trent

Description

Black and white photograph showing the stern of the barge as it travels towards the lock which can be seen ahead of it. The barge is under pipes which go over the water and beside a small office building. November 2018 - information received suggests that this is a motor tank barge, not a keel, owned by John Harker, Knottingley. It is passing through the main lock into the lower chamber. The "office" is the lock control tower and the pipe bridge was for the original hydraulic mechanism. Date probably later than 1960.
