Gloucester and Sharpness Canal
BW192/3/2/2/11/102
Oil tankers 'Regent Wren' and 'Weardake' travelling on the frozen Gloucester and Sharpness Canal
Black and white photograph showing the tankers travelling on the canal through ice broken by tugs. The description on the photograph reads "Winter 1963. This canal was kept open throughout the entire "freeze-up" at the most urgent request of the Oil Companies. Note: The ice was so solid that as soon as the craft stopped it was quite possible for the crew to get off and walk to the bank."
