Ice breaking by tugs 'Severn Iris' and 'Primrose' on the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal
Description
Black and white photograph showing the tugs on the frozen canal, there is a barge following them in the background. The description on the photograph reads "Winter 1963. This canal was kept open throughout the entire "freeze-up" at the most urgent request of the Oil Companies. Note: The ice was so solid that as soon as the craft stopped it was quite possible for the crew to get off and walk to the bank."
