Description

Albert Clowes and his younger son on Thomas Clayton motor boat Spey in the top wide lock at Ellesmere Port. Paired with the ex-horse boat Ohio, the boats are loaded with fuel oil from the Shell Stanlow refinery on the Manchester Ship Canal for delivery to their depot at Langley Green, Oldbury. Across the dock from the boats one of two hydraulic cranes on the Island Warehouse can be seen and behind this, the canopy of 'Telford's Warehouse' which was destroyed by fire in 1970. About 1953.
