Administrative /​ Biographical history

Sir John Knill operated a number of working narrowboats based at Braunston during the 1950s. He was a founder of the Inland Waterways Association and was the number one who commisioned the building of the butty narrowboat 'Lucy'. In 1990 he was one of the patrons of the Inland Waterways Association National Festival held in Gloucester. In 1998 he published a book entitled 'John Knill's Navy: Five Years on the Cut' (Sir John Knill, 1998). Sir John died on 15 April 1998.
